Central Animal Research Facility

Animal House Facility is a central support laboratory for all laboratories of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Hajipur for performing in-vivo experiments as per CCSEA guidelines. The staff of the facility is trained and committed to the application of 3 R’s for replacement, reduction and refinement. We have a dedicated Veterinary Officer provides veterinary insights and care, advises and educates the scientists and staff on animal experimentation issues while promoting the best practices for the humane care, regulatory guidelines on animal care and experimentation,  ethical and responsible use of animals.

Our in vivo pharmacology consists of non-GLP studies performed exclusively in rodent models. We have recently introduced Regulatory Toxicology department also. We have believed in the humane and proper use of laboratory animals for biological and biomedical research. The Institutional Animal Ethics Committee (IAEC) serves as an independent oversight committee responsible for monitoring all associated animal care and use at NIPER Hajipur.

The Animal House Facility is equipped with individually ventilated cages (IVCs), cage change stations, anesthesia machine, bedding disposal station etc. Further, it possesses well-equipped pharmacology laboratory for cardiovascular, neurobehavioral etc studies. The facility is under electronic surveillance (CCTV system) and controlled access system for authorized persons, in order to minimize the risk of infection to the animals.

The Animal House Facility of NIPER, Hajipur is registered with CCSEA and had been awarded the Registration No. 2116/GO/Re/S/20/ CPCSEA in 2020 under ‘Small animal:- Research for Education purpose’ category. The animals are being maintained under controlled environmental conditions as specified in CPCSEA guidelines with temperature maintained between 22-25oC, relative humidity between 45-65 %, and 12:12 hr light dark cycle.
